Background

 

Dr. Chong has a wide-ranging background in social work, clinical counselling, psychotherapy, and marriage and family therapy. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work (Child Welfare Specialization) from the University of Victoria where he also studied Health Information Science. He earned a Master of Social Work degree from the University of British Columbia, a second Master’s degree in Health Research (Mental Health) from Lancaster University, and a Doctorate degree from the University of Liverpool. He is also a Part-time faculty member for the Master of Arts Leadership Program at Trinity Western University.

Dr. Chong has held various clinical positions within Vancouver Coastal Health. He is currently a Director of Counselling and Psychotherapy practicing at the Counselling Clinic of Oval Integrative Pharmacy located at Richmond Olympic Oval. Additionally, he mentors graduate students in Counselling Psychology across multiple Master’s programs as a Clinical Supervisor. He is recognized for introducing innovative programs aimed at improving patient care and mental health services, particularly in the realm of integrated care models that encourage collaboration among healthcare professionals.

 

Therapeutic Approach

 

Dr. Chong has wide range of clinical practice and research experience in health care social work and counselling. He provides advanced clinical and consultative counselling to individuals, couples, families and groups to help resolve mental health issues, as well as marriage and family dynamics issues. He has strong critical analysis and problem solving skills and can conduct sessions in English and different Chinese dialects. He provides comprehensive and consultative counselling services to clients and families within the context of family centered care model. He is skillful in dealing with people from diverse backgrounds and bring an unique blend of services to his practice due to his knowledge and experience in both Social Work and Clinical Counselling, and able to discern the needs of clients and support them holistically. He can conduct sessions in English, Mandarin, Cantonese or Taiwanese.
